What is Magento Commerce?

Magento Commerce is the subscription-based premium version of the popular open-source platform Magento. Previously known as Magento Enterprise Edition, Magento Commerce comes packaged with advanced functionality, unlimited customizability, and the ability to integrate with third-party services seamlessly. 

Its pricing starts from an average of $1,600 per month but is adjusted based on the Gross Merchandise Value of a business’s products. This tiered pricing model means its subscription isn’t fixed and increases with sales.

Magento Commerce is available in two editions — as an on-premise solution and a PaaS (platform as a service) by way of the Magento Commerce Cloud. While the core code of both options is the same, the on-premise solution requires manual upgrades whereas the cloud edition is able to receive automatic platform level updates. Magento Commerce Cloud includes all the features of the on-premise edition and adds advanced Cloud infrastructure hosting features to the platform.

Business intelligence dashboards

The business intelligence dashboard connects with the Magento business intelligence account, providing a single point of access to all store data integrated with the Magento database. It also allows analyzing data, visualizing data, and comparing various reports to help merchants better understand their business.

B2B functionality

Magento Commerce’s B2B functionality comes bundled in an installable module that brings support for customer quotes, price negotiation, and a fully streamlined quoting workflow. In addition, these features can be managed entirely from inside the Magento admin panel or through external systems via APIs. It also supports the creation of company accounts with multiple buyers and complex organizational structures for their internal teams.

Private sales and events

Magento Commerce lets you create limited-time sales, member-specific sales, and even standalone sales pages. You can also configure invitations and event details to provide members-only access to private sales and create a VIPs-only shopping experience. This is a fantastic feature to leverage existing customers to generate sales.

Content staging and preview

Content staging allows merchants to create, preview, and schedule content updates for their store from within the admin panel. Products, categories, pricing rules, CMS pages, and blocks can all be updated or changed on schedule throughout the year. A powerful marketing tool, Product Recommendations helps increase conversions, boost sales, and stimulate customer engagement. Magento leverages Adobe Sensei to create lists of recommendations in the form of “Customers who viewed this product also viewed,” etc. Adobe Sensei uses a combination of artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze visitor data and deliver its recommendations in the catalog.

Customer segmentation

Customer segments in Magento Commerce allow merchants to create and display content and promotions tailored to specific customers based on their address, order history, and cart contents. It helps optimize marketing plans using shopping cart price rules. As a customer’s preset variables like location or order history changes, so will their segment, presenting them with offers and content based on their new segment.

Google Tag Manager

Magento Commerce comes with Google Tag Manager built in. This feature makes it easy to manage multiple tags and snippets of code related to different marketing campaign events. By transferring data directly to Google Analytics, Enhanced Ecommerce, and other third-party analytics, merchants better understand their store’s performance.

Store credit

Store credits make it easy for customers to pay for purchases. Magento Commerce allows customers to transfer Gift card balances into their accounts as store credit instead of using it for a purchase. Store admins are also able to issue cash refunds in the form of store credits.
